The improbable run begins

Well here we are.  In the playoffs.  Despite all the naysayers. (I actually did call a 10-6 season before it started)  And in a returning role as big favorites… GULP.

When you make it to 2 or 3 NFC Championship Games, you earn some respect.  But after a 6-10 season, erratic mid-season play this year, and losing your All-Pro QB… it just feels strange to be favored 7 points against a team that matches up pretty well.  A team that features a running back who can light you up for 150-200 yards at will.

Am I being pessimistic?  Nah… just realistic.  Remember folks, anything from here out is gravy.  I still see a 24-13 Eagles victory in the cards.

What do you think?

Got the Fever for the Flavor!

After a week in San Francisco, we were just anxious to get home.  But then to what did my wandering eyes did appear… a giant clock.  Not mounted on a wall, this clock hung, rather, at the end of a rope around a man’s neck.

I searched my memory banks and wondered, "Why, who would do such a thing?"  And then it came to me.  From a 10 year old girl in back of me in line:

"It’s really him.  He has a show on VH1"

Ahhh.. of course.

Just to be sure, I did some research to ensure it really was Flavor Flav.  Sure enough, this seems to be his timepiece du jour these days, as Pat Boone can attest to.

New Year, New User

Sean O Special Report — New Year, New User

Welcome to the first of what is to be many tips on making you, the average computer user… well, better than average!  We’ll be covering shortcuts, tutorials, general information — lots of helpful hints that are designed, ultimately, to help you just get things done easier (and not to become a bigger computer geek).

First up: something almost all of us do every day — typing in a web site name.

When you see or hear about a web site, what do you do?  Do you move your mouse up and click inside the address bar, then start typing w… w… w…, or even worse: h… t… t… p…, then the name of the web site, then .com, then Enter?

STOP!

For the 98% or so addresses of web sites that are www.something.com, all you need to do is enter in that something (e.g. sean-o), then hit Ctrl+Enter (Cmd+Enter for you wacky Maccies).  Voila.  The www. and .com are added automagically, and you are taken to the site.

And don’t bother reaching for the mouse to get to that address bar, either.  Simply hit Alt+D (Option+D on the Mac).  Both shortcuts work in IE and Firefox.

Summary: To get to any site quickly, just hit Alt+D, type in just the name of the web site, then Ctrl+Enter.  This tip alone should save you lots of browsing time over the next year.

My Girl

Until I sort through the 770-some odd pics I shot over our vacation, I’ll post a few morsels for those demanding instant gratification .
First one here courtesy of Robert O III.

Hanged

Let’s start the new year off right…
With the best copy I’ve found of the Saddam hanging.

Funny how even though this is a state execution, the executors are all hooded. Not that I’m up on the latest death sentence protocols…

Nothing too graphic here, but you do see ‘the drop’ and brief closeups

See you next year

The staff of sean-o.com will be taking a vacation this week to sunny San Francisco!

Play some games here to pass the time if you like (Bunny Bells & Bejeweled are my personal faves).  I’ll be putting together a Best of 2006 wrapup when we get back.

Hope you all got your special Christmas boxes!  Merry Merry & Happy Happy… see you next year.

Line Rider

Just in time for winter, a flash demo movie game… ummm, simulation?

Simply draw some lines and watch your little sledder go.  Make him go fast, make him go slow.  Not too fast, or he’ll crash.  Not too slow or he’ll get stuck.

You can make him do some amazing things.  This has really developed quite a following on the web — check out some of the awesome videos that people have produced!

One of the best! :
