Post Mortem

Well, I’ve been telling everyone worried about the Philadelphia Eagles winning on Saturday, "Don’t worry.  No matter what happens, it’s all gravy from here on out."  And I really felt that way… until about 1:30 left in the NFC Divisional Playoff game.

That’s when that gravy seemed like week-old, moldy, store-brand slop.

Just over a minute to go, and our fearless leader sends on the punting team.  We had actually just converted fourth-and-long a play ago, but thanks to yet another knuckle-headed game-breaking killer penalty, we found ourselves in a deeper rut.

If only we still had The People’s Champ on the roster…

If only we’d’ve been able to punch it in with 2nd & Goal from the two.

If only we’d’ve not had another stupid penalty (that had nothing to do with the play) when the Saints were facing 1st and 20.

If only we’d have pulled out one of the last-minute losses (NYG, NO, TB, etc.) earlier in the year and been hosting this game (nod: H.F.A.)

If only…

Ahhhh… it’s all Sunday-morning-quarterback, 20-20 hindsight speculation.  Fact is, New Orleans was a better team last night, and they played better.  They deserved to win.

But didn’t you feel a wave of emotion when Darren Howard, an ex-Saint, hopped on that ball at the 45 with 3 1/2 minutes left?  Didn’t you just feel like something big was about to happen?

However, what did happen was a handful of plays that, at best, would have netted 5-6 yards.  We needed 25 to get into field goal range.

What has been happening for years now is questionable calls towards the end of many important games.  Are the rumors of Gruden coming to Philly, with Reid moving to sole GM, true?

Maybe that, coupled with a run-stopping lineman, might be the difference?

Real classy!

And people talk crap about Philly fans?!  Gimme a break.  Who was the FOX cameraman that got the greenlight for this shot??  (held for a good 6-7 seconds…)

Olbermann on Bush’s speech

Another great speech on the sheer lunacy of the war.

He told us about WMD. Mobile labs. Secret sources. Aluminum tubes. Yellow-cake.

He has told us the war is necessary because Saddam was a material threat. Because of 9/11. Because of Osama Bin Laden. Al-Qaeda. Terrorism in General. To liberate Iraq. To spread freedom. To spread Democracy. To prevent terrorism by gas price increases. Because this was a guy who tried to kill his Dad.
